Rutilated Quartz is dressed in golden yellow “needles” or hair-like growths throughout the Quartz. These golden needle-like strands are the Rutile, a titanium dioxide mineral with large iron oxide quantities. It is similar to Tourmalinated Quartz which is named so, for having Tourmaline needles within a Quartz.
If the color is quite golden in the Rutile, this crystal looks like it has strands of hair. This is why the stone is sometimes referred to as “angel hair” in various languages.
